I want to share a challenge that happened to me. For three years I've given a talk to my daughter Rebekah's grammar school class on ISAD and stuttering. However, last year, Bekah's classmate said outloud during my talk, "Rebekah you Dad stutters!" A wave of shame and embarrassment overtook me. I felt vulnerable. I finished my talk. (Rebekah has gone to many NSA convention and parties) However, this time I was identified by her peer. We went for tea and hot chocolate. We talked about my stuttering. "Whooosh" How much information do I share? "Do I let her in?' I decided to share age appropriate stories. I hope.
I felt we grew closer that day. She now knows some of her father's history with stuttering. And its ok.
Talking to my daughter about my stuttering is the hardest speaking situation....
Kindly, Michael
