Hi John, Glad you found the article useful. Please be clear that many people who do not stutter are sensitive, and the results of my research found that about 83-84% of children who stutter did fall into the highly sensitive range. To my knowledge, research has not been conducted to determine whether highly sensitive children who stutter have a tendency to recover or to stutter chronically. However, my work influences me to speculate that the highly sensitive child who also stutters is more at risk for continuing to stutter. You may want to read some of Guitar's text on stuttering (1998) as he does address this topic to some degree. These highly sensitive children who stutter do respond well to skilled speech therapy. I have seen numbers of these children successfully recover from stuttering with appropriate professional help. To find a very skillful speech-language pathologist is essential.
